Worcester, Mass., October 5, 2012 – Reliant Medical Group Foundation has awarded a total of $70,100 to 14 non-profit institutions as part of its mission to promote health in Central Massachusetts through education, innovation, support of quality improvement, and access to services. The Foundation offers community grants twice a year to organizations within Reliant Medical Group’s Central MA service area. Charities offering programs and initiatives to battle the obesity epidemic gain special consideration.
Grants were made to the following charities and programs:
Abby’s House: Women’s Center
Auburn Youth and Family Services: Project L.A.U.N.C.H.
Boy Scouts of America, Mohegan Council: SCOUTStrong program
Boys and Girls Club of Worcester: Healthy Habits program
Community Harvest Project: Nutrition Education Initiative
Family Health Center: Elm Park Family Nutrition program
Genesis Club, Inc.: Promoting Healthy Lifestyles for Individuals with Mental Illness
Girls Inc. of Worcester: Fit Girls and Swim & Gym programs
Lifeskills, Inc.: Safe and Sound Initiative
Lutheran Social Services: New Lands Program, Mobile Market
Nativity School of Worcester: Healthy Living Initiative
Regional Environmental Council: Cooking Matters classes
Reliant Medical Group: Transportation for Elderly Patients in Need and a Blood Pressure Home Monitoring program
Worcester Youth Center: Snacking for a Healthier Life program
The next deadline to apply for Community Grants is February 1, 2013. Guidelines and information on how to apply can be found atwww.reliantfoundation.org.
In addition, Reliant Foundation has a dedicated Oncology Fund to benefit initiatives that increase the care and comfort of Reliant Medical Group patients. Fall grants were made through this fund to provide care packages for cancer patients and iPads and headphones for patients’ use during chemotherapy treatments.
Finally, Reliant Foundation provided $7,500 in funding for new books to be given to children under age 6 at the Auburn, Milford, Millbury, Spencer, Westboro and Worcester sites of Reliant Medical Group. This support is part of Reliant’s commitment to the National Reach Out and Reach early literacy program.
