starting line at the 2023 Reliant Foundation 5K
The annual Reliant Foundation 5K, held on Saturday, September 30, raised $31,000 and drew 225 registered participants – one of the largest turnouts since the Foundation began hosting the event in 2012. Proceeds will fund the Foundation’s Community Grants Program in support of youth mental health and behavioral health programs, substance use prevention and recovery programs for individuals of all ages, and initiatives to reduce the stigma around these issues.

Beginning and ending at Shore Park in Worcester, the certified, chip-timed road race provided a scenic route for runners and walkers around Indian Lake. Top Overall Male and Female Finishers were Oscar Herrera, of Worcester, with a time of 17:30, and Jamie McNamara, of Shrewsbury, at 22:13. Awards were given in age categories ranging from “12 and Under” to “70 and Over.” The Top Team Overall “Munq,” comprised of Jesse Colman of Worcester; Alex Couture, Alex Haji, Timothy Hally, Nicholas Lanotte, Justin Matsen, Leo Matsen, and Matthew Matsen, all of Shrewsbury; and Casey Shea of West Boylston, was presented with the Community Trophy.

“This year’s 5K exceeded our goals and we couldn’t be happier,” said Kelsa Zereski, Reliant Foundation President. “We had 225 registered participants, more than 40 community volunteers, and a strong group of corporate and individual sponsors to help us make the day a success. The Bancroft School and YMCA Greendale Family Branch were great partners in helping us to host the event here at Shore Park again this year. Together we are making a difference and changing lives.”
