WORCESTER, September 20, 2013 — The Reliant Medical Group Foundation will host the second annual Reliant Foundation 5k charity road race on Oct. 5, which will raise money to promote healthy living and battle obesity in Central Massachusetts.
The race starts and ends at Worcester Fitness, 440 Grove St., with the 5k (3.1-mile) course looping around Indian Lake. In addition to the traditional race, the day also features a 5k walking division and a “Bark 1 mile” dog walk. Prizes will be given for each 5k division and age group. Following the races, there will be family-friendly activities, music and refreshments in the parking lot at Worcester Fitness. WSRS personality Greg Byrne will serve as MC.
Through Sept. 27, entry fees are $15 for ages 12 and younger, and $30 for ages 13 and older. After Sept. 27, the fees increase to $15 and $35, respectively. Registration includes a long-sleeve tech T-shirt and/or doggie gift bag.
Proceeds benefit Reliant Medical Group Foundation’s granting program, including programs that address serious health conditions such as obesity; grants that increase access to health care; initiatives to increase the care and comfort of Reliant cancer patients; and support for national initiatives such as Reach Out and Read.
Worcester Fitness and Tufts Health Plan are serving as the presenting sponsors of this year’s race.
